Design Direction

Since  2014 I have been in a leadership role where I’ve been focused on building and maintaining the design team, mentoring, driving the product creation process, and ensuring brand integrity. These are some examples of tools I’ve created to set the design direction. They’ve been essential for maintaining consistency across multiple designers (in-house and freelance), communicating to other departments and helping external staff understand the vision.

Sketches

I enjoy the tactility and fluidity of sketching by hand. Over the years I’ve learned that it’s faster and more efficient for me to work out designs on paper prior to transitioning to the computer. These are examples of sketches that are evolved to the point that they can be digitized. In most situations I’ve found that this level of detail is enough to have effective collaboration meetings or to get buy in at early stage gates.

Graphics

Throughout my career graphics have been an adjacent passion.  I’ve designed and been heavily involved in helmet graphics, jersey graphics, tees and accessories. These are some examples from Dirtslayers- a brand that I created and is currently on the market.

Ansari X Prize

Stephan Sendelbach and I saw an opportunity and created a company, Corvo Industries, to fill a need for cutting edge flight suits and gloves. Stephan had the money, contacts, and customer insight. I was the product guy, providing the corporate identity, product design, quality control, importing, etc. It was a wild ride that eventually landed our product in space, National Geographic and the Smithsonian Institute.
